CITY WELLNESS COLLECTIVE I & II
NEW YORK, NY — 2016-18 I MARIA LOMANTO
With two sister centers in Manhattan, The City Wellness Center was conceived as an urban oasis—calm, clear, and quietly restorative. The first location was designed in tandem with the brand identity, the interiors become a three-dimensional expression of the brand, carrying its visual language from first impression through every touchpoint of the experience. The second location applies this same design lexicon—developed to be replicable for future franchises—keeping the experience consistent while adapting it to its own space.
At the heart of the design is the hexagon, taken directly from the logo and used as a quiet organizing idea. Applied subtly—from overhead lighting and the built-in custom coworking desk to the water station and side tables—it underpins key elements of the space, giving the interiors a distinct, recognizable character without drawing overt attention to itself.
Equally important, the centers are designed to support both clients and clinicians. Circulation and shared areas are planned to make arrival, waiting, and movement feel intuitive and low-stress, while work settings and common zones help clinicians focus, collaborate, and restore. Recognized for this holistic and biophilic approach, The City Wellness Center received the ASID Design Excellence Award in 2019 for an office space.
As a testament to the strength of the design, the space has since changed ownership yet has preserved its interior design and continues to receive enthusiastic praise from loyal clients.
…the perfect space for healers and ideal for clients. We do need to confess, the space is fantastic. Just by walking in, you can already sense the soothing energy inside it! - Behind The Scenes, NYC
“Finding respite in a busy city is no small task, but Maria's vision brought to life an unexpected oasis hidden in the concrete walls of NYC. As a health & wellness practitioner, I know how deeply people are affected by their surroundings and the backdrop she created is both serene and stunning. Her attention to detail is exceptional, in the flow of the space, the way light carries through wall panels, and how the plant world interplays with each corner. All my patients and I breath a large sigh of content when walking through those doors, into this unique and calm splendor.”
